Yarmouth Regional Hospital

167,000 sq. ft.
Client: Western Regional Health Board
Type: Institutional, Addition
Beds: 100
This project involves the addition of a new 100-bed, 160,000 square foot tower to the existing Yarmouth Regional Hospital. The six-storey tower accommodates Ambulatory Care facilities, Education Services, Health Records, Labour and Delivery, Laboratory and Inpatient units. The project also includes substantial renovations to the existing facilities at the hospital. These renovations are phased so they will not interrupt existing services.
The distinctive clover-leaf tower configuration minimizes travel distances for staff. The upper levels of the new tower are connected to the existing hospital by two links. One link facilitates staff and patient traffic between the existing Emergency and OR departments and the new Labour & Delivery, ICU and other inpatient units. The other link is central and public and accesses the administration.
A central 1½-storey atrium links the new tower with the existing facility, and accommodates waiting for Ambulatory Care services.
