Neil's Harbour Community Health Centre

Neil's Harbour, NS
1999
24,500 sq. ft.
Client: Eastern Regional Health Board
Type: Institutional, New Construction

The Neil's Harbour Community Health Centre in the highlands of Cape Breton is one of the first two Design-Build health care projects in Nova Scotia. It is a jewel in its new site, with spectacular views to the ocean in front and to the stream behind. Its character is reminiscent of the existing Hospital, but houses a new and exciting facility which meets many special requirements identified in the program. It is a true community health centre with a positive environment and planning based on convenience and efficiency.

The new Neil's Harbour Community Health Centre is non-institutional in character and offers interest in the application and colour of its finishes. Air handling equipment is concealed within its roof volume. The building perimeter maximizes the use of windows.

The Neil's Harbour Community Health Centre provides an opportunity for the community to take pride in healthcare services as well as optimizes the potential, over time, to attract physicians and nursing staff to the area.
